Therefore it is imperative to find the adequate reply for the crisis in the financial markets and the outcomes for growth and employment. The crises afford the opportunity to show the importance of the European Union for coping with this challenge.

Europe Day 2008: The social dimension of European integration (May 7th, 2008)

The process of European agreement is primarily driven by economic integration. This strategy has increasingly been complemented through a social dimension. Sectors like employement protection and gender equalitity are becoming more and more important and are thus regulated widely on the European level. Furthermore, since 1997, the European employement strategy shall additionally support the national labour market reforms. However, it remains a current issue whether these individual attempts can bring about a social Europe. The connected questions shall be discussed at this Europe Day
